On February 10, 2017 the Town of North Hempstead held its Black History Month Celebration at the Yes We Can Community Center. The theme for this year's event was "African American Achievers in Art, Science and Education". On display were exhibits from the African American Museum featuring the Women of NASA and "African Genius". Also on display were exhibits from the first African American syndicated cartoonist Brumsic Brandon, Jr., and his daughter Barbara Brandon-Croft.
