An exciting day for boxing fans on Long Island, the kick-off of the newly established Westbury Boxing Club.  Located in Westbury on Post Ave, the M. Phipps Sports Center, celebrates the Boxing club reformation and continuation. With the officially ceremony on April 1, 2011, community members and supporters gathered for this ribbon cutting.  Among the attendees were Mayor Peter Cavallaro, former State Senator Michael Balboni, State Assemblyman Charles Lavine, County Legislators Richard Nicolello and Robert Troiano, and Town of North Hempstead Councilwoman Viviana Russell. Mayor Cavallaro stated that, “The Village has long supported a boxing program to give the youths in the community, who have an interest in this area, a place to practice and sharpen their skills.”  This program and its previous success can be attributed to former D.A. Dillon who allocated funds for this program through PBA during his esteemed lifetime.  Now, under the new vision and program coming from the Dennis Dillon Cornerman Foundation the life long dreams of Mr. Dillon will live on.
