On this sunny Saturday, there was screening of Town produced film ‘Defining Moments: The Civil Rights Movement in North Hempstead’, hosted by the NAACP Westbury/ New Cassel Chapter President Leslie Davis. This documentary is very powerful, as two years of research and oral histories of several North Hempstead residents, together narrate the historic impact of segregation and racism in the Town of North Hempstead.
I was joined by Supervisor Judi Bosworth, Senator Anna Kaplan, Legislator Siela Bynoe ,Village of Westbury Mayor Peter Cavallaro and Board. As well as First Baptist Cathedral of Westbury’s Bishop Harvey and Islamic Center of Long Island President, Habeeb Ahmed. This screening was followed by a Tase of Westbury event where we were able to enjoy small plates of food and beverages from local restaurants!
