To Give or not to Give, if that is the question Councilwoman Viviana Russell anxiously chooses the former. During the Holiday season we know that along with the spirit of giving, merriment and cheer many families on the island also feel increased financial strain. Children with lists for Santa surpassing our grocery list and infamous ‘To Do’ list combined, it was very stressful for families to accommodate. Organizations locally and nationally traditionally take this time to lend a hand, in hopes of relieving some of the frustration that Parents, Grandparents and Caregivers alike may be enduring.
On Tuesday, December 14, Councilwoman Russell joined NY Islanders captain Doug Weight, and defensemen James Wisniewski and Andrew MacDonald at Nassau University Medical Center to distribute toys during this holiday season to the children on the pediatric floor who had to spend the holidays in the hospital. "Seeing the smiles on the faces of the children and some parents who needed this extra bit of joy in their lives for this holiday season was priceless." Said Councilwoman Russell.
On Friday December 17, Councilwoman Russell along with Nassau County Legislators Rose Marie Walker and Dennis Dunne supported EGC Group President Ernie Canadeo as he made Big dreams come true for Little people. Fifty children were granted a 'Toys "R" Us' Shopping Spree by EGC Group. Mr. Canadeo presently sits on the board and provides pro bono marketing services and support for many non-profit organizations including the United Way of Long Island. Varying from dolls, to board games, to monster trucks, Councilwoman Russell shared in the children's joy about Christmas coming even sooner then expected. One especially excited little girl proudly displayed her new hair styling set and let the Councilwoman know of her plans for her own shop for which the Councilwoman agreed to be her first appointment.
‘Tis better to give then to receive’, this phrase still holds true and according to the Councilwoman, the trade off this Holiday season was neck and neck!
